William was the first born on 27th November 1840. His birth records indicate he was born in the Abercrombie region suggesting it is likely out at Native Dog Creek and his death certificate and that of his youngest child confirms this. He was baptised in Bathurst on 9th July 1841.
William Henry married Emma Humphries [ refer to the Cole Humphries history]. Emma's photo courtesy of Sharpe Family website. They married on 27th May 1863 at St Stephens Church, Bathurst. Emma was the daughter of Henry Humphries and Sarah Dix. Dix becomes an important name to their first son “Henry” which is explained in the Cole Humphries document. Emma had been born at Campbells River perhaps near or on Charlton Station on 19th July 1843. She was baptised at All Saints Cathedral Bathurst on 29th March 1847.
William Henry died at the age of 30 years at the property "Wattle Grove" Oberon from bronchitis and is buried at St Barnabas Church Oberon. he was buried on 6th July 1871 having died on the 4th July. Emma went on to remarry John Maher in 1872.

William and Emma had 4 children:
CHILD 1: James Joseph Henry SMITH known as Henry on WH Smith’s [Snr] death certificate.
Henry was born about 1864. We do not have a birth record for him just his age at his
father’s death in 1871, 6 yrs old. James in his adult life was also known as
James Joseph Henry Dix when he married Rubina Wilson in Wollongong NSW on 11th December
1889 but after their divorce he reverted to James Joseph Henry Smith but on his marriage
certificate to Marion Agnes Isobel Hobbs in Bathurst on 6th October 1906 an R is introduced
to his first names perhaps Richard! JJHR Smith.
James and Rubina had 1 child Stanley Smith Dix and his story is in the Cole Humphries document.
James and Marion had 6 children:
1. Albert Henry born 28th June 1906 in Bathurst. He died on 16th September 1991.
Nothing more is known about Albert Henry except he was called Henry and was also
of Wallerawang NSW [ refer Victors obituary below]. Someone has erected a
lovely headstone in Oberon cometary for him in the family section.
2. Dulcie Emma born in 1st August 1908 and registered in Oberon Shire. Her birth record again indicates her father as JJHR Smith, likely the R stands for Richard. Dulcie married William Buckley [1897-1952] and they had 9 children according to family trees, three of whom were Marie Emma [1935-1995], Eric William [d 1970] and Cedric H [ d 1932] and the others named on her headstone are Phyllis, Vera, Colleen, Jess, Grace and Gordon . Dulcie died at Lithgow NSW on 18th August 1945. She is buried at Bowenfels Lithgow.
3. Victor William [known as Bill] born 12th December 1910 in Oberon. He married Edna May Dalling in 1940 and they had one daughter Jess who married Ron Lewis. Bill died at Wallerawang NSW suddenly after a long illness on 17th October 1988. He is buried in the family section of Oberon Cemetary.
4. Edna May born according to family trees only in 1912 and died 1991. She is believed to have married Frederick Charles Joseph Robinson an had one daughter Brenda May. There is no primary evidence for this information so it does require confirmation beyond family trees but Victor’s obit above which lists Edna as a Robertson [Bankstown] would seem to provide some evidence despite the spelling issues. There is evidence of Frederick in electoral rolls in Bankstown in the 1930’s.
5. Doris Marion born 1921 and married Arthur William Hawtin. She died on 19th May 2006 at Canley Vale Nursing Home NSW. She is buried at Liverpool Cemetery Anglican Section Position 266. NSW. Her headstone states she was 84 years of age when she passed. Doris and Arthur had one son Brendan John who died aged 3 months in 1948.

CHILD 2: Sarah Rose Mary born in 1865. She married George Thomas Bailey [1852-1941] on 12th January 1886 at O'Connell. he was the son of George Bailey [1805-1882 born Clogher Ireland] and Jane Armstrong [1808-1918 Belfast Ireland] . They had arrived as free settlers in 1841. Sarah and George had 9 children:
1. Emma Jane Bailey born 18th Nov 1886 at Oberon and died 28th November 1888 at Melrose park near Oberon.
2. Amy Selina Bailey born 19th January 1889 Oberon and died 3rd Sept 1986 Sydney. She married Thomas Arthur Wellesley Martin in 1915 in Paddington Sydney. They had a son Harley Thomas Martin [1917-1976].
3. Elsie Amelia Bailey born 14th March 1891 Oberon and died 16th November 1968 Parramatta NSW. She married Harold Bourner in 1914 in Paddington. They had 2 children Carl H R [1921-1927] and Gloria Roselee Elsie [1922-2008].
4. Thomas Clifton Bailey born 9 Sept 1893 and died 14th April 1956 at Edith near Oberon.
5. Roy Harold Bailey [see death notice in scroll at end] born 10th Dec 1895 at Oberon and died 12th August 1962 at Windsor.
He married Cora Stella Benson in 1935 at Moss Vale NSW. They had one daughter Doreen.
6. Victor Ernest Bailey born 8th June 1898 Oberon and died 12th April 1979 at Canley Vale NSW.
He married Sylvia Mary Olds in 1926 at Auburn NSW.
7. Vera Albina Bailey born 11th Nov 1899 Oberon and died 27 Sept 2001 Canley Vale.
She married Walter Owen Verrell in 1934 Auburn NSW.
8. Horace George Bailey born 1903 Oberon and died 24th April 1982 in Sydney. He married Edna Augusta Celia Oldenburg in 1939 in Ashfield NSW.
9. Lila Coralie Laurel (Coral) Bailey born 1905 Oberon and died 17th march 2006.She married Ronald James Gane in 1925 at Auburn NSW.
They had one son Clyde Ronald who died in 2000.
CHILD 3: William Henry Smith born in 1867 and died on 9th May 1931 in Cowra NSW.
He married Matilda Ann Bailey [1870-1941] on 2nd Oct 1889 in Oberon.
She was the daughter of John Bailey [1836-1907] and Elizabeth Dugain [1840-1915]
both of Ireland, see photo below. John was the brother of George Thomas Bailey making
John William's uncle and Matilda's first cousin.
They had 8 children:
1. Herbert Edwin Smith born 1890 Oberon and died 21 May 1901 Oberon.
2. John Sebastian Smith [Grandpa below] born 18th April 1891 Oberon and died in 1981. He married Elenor Stella Emery [1897-1980] in Bathurst on 19th March 1919. They had 5 children; Doylas Joan [1922-1986]; Nona Maryl [1924-1999]; Gwenth Gloria [1927-1961]; Jean Constance [1927-1935] and an unknown child.
3. William Cecil James Smith born 11th Sept 1893 Oberon and died 25th June in Cowra NSW. He married Mary Mildred Stocks [see photos below] in Bathurst on 28th oct 1920. They had 4 children; William John [1921-1922]; Ethel Dorothy [1923-2022]; Cecil Lawrence [1927-1999] and Nelson Henry [1929-2007].
4. Ruby May Smith born 29th oct 1895 Charles Creek Oberon and died 9th Dec 1961 Cowra NSW. She married
Harold Norman Jones on 3rd Oct 1918 in Bathurst NSW. They had 5 daughters: Eunice Sylvia [1919-2003];
Mary Pauline Norma [1921-2016]; Miriam Joy [1927-1991]; Esther Lillian [1930-2004] and Daphne Priscilla [1933-1934].
5. Mary Elizabeth Smith born 5 Sept 1898 Oberon and died 19 March 1982 Cowra. She married Norman McAlister
[ 1890-1963] in 1924 in Redfern NSW.
6. Muriel Bertha Smith born 1904 Oberon and died 4 Aug 1991 in Geelong Victoria. She married Joseph Aloysius Patterson [1899-1990] in 1923 at Bathurst and they had 1 son Clive Henry [1926-1927]. She later married Frederick John Smith in Redfern in 1940.
7. Clive Thomas Smith [on right] born 1909 Blayney and died 1975 in Cowra.
He married Bessie Chivers [on right] on 21st March 1935 at Cowra.
They had 3 children; Helen Margaret [1937-2015];
Robert William John [1941-2017] and William Henry [1943-1982].
8. Ivy Unetta Smith born 27 July 1913 Wellington NSW. She died 28th Aug 1968.
Ivy married Edward A Barker in Cowra in 1935. They had a daughter
Shirley Joyce [1928-2014].
Child 4: Harriet Carolyn Smith born 1869 and died 3 June 1871 at Wattle Grove Oberon.
